Oklahoma City police have arrested a man who reportedly walked into a hospital with a knife and attacked three nurses and a security guard late Monday night.

According to police, officers responded to the report of a mental patient in the Emergency Room at Deaconess Hospital, located at 5501 N. Portland in Oklahoma City. Officers said when they arrived, they saw a man, later identified as 58-year-old Keith Bain, swinging a metal pole that is normally used to hold IV bags.

A nurse told police that Bain walked into the Emergency Room and complained of head and chest pains. Once in an exam room, Bain became very belligerent with the staff and threatened to assault them, according to the police report.

A second nurse said he went in to take a blood sample from Bain, but Bain refused and said he would make the nurse bleed. That nurse said he stepped out of the room.

Bain, police said, then walked out of the room and confronted a security guard. The security guard asked Bain to step back into the room. That's when Bain pulled out a knife and cut the security guard across the left side of his neck.

According to police, three nurses went to help the security guard and began fighting with Bain. During the struggle, Bain sliced one nurse's shirt across the stomach area, but the nurse was not cut.

However, police said another nurse sustained cuts to his face, left arm, and the left side of his back. A third nurse told police Bain got close enough to him to bite him twice on the arm.

Police learned that Bain fell to the ground at some point during the struggle. That's when staff members left the room, slamming the door shut and holding it closed until police arrived.

At that point, police said Bain began breaking all the equipment inside the exam room. He also broke the sink off the wall, causing water to flood the room.

The tact team was called to assist officers in taking Bain into custody.

A motive of the attack is unclear at this time. Bain was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on multiple charges, including four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon (knife,) and a misdemeanor count of malicious injury and destruction of property. He is being held on $152,500 bond.
