From soldiers to knights, two Oklahoma veterans were honored for their bravery and sacrifice, defending France during World War II.

"Your generation literally changed the world," said Grant Moak with the French Consul.

The two veterans, 89-year-old Preston Johnson and 92-year-old Earl Gonzales, were presented with the French Legion of Honor Medal this week.

That means the American veterans are now considered Knights in France.

"Whatever I did to help them, I'm glad I did it and I would do it again," Gonzales said.

He joined the military before the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. He fought in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy during World War II.

Earl Johnson was an infantryman. He later spent 29 years working at Tinker Air Force Base.
