POTEAU, Oklahoma -

Fire officials believe a wood burning stove was to blame for a fire which destroyed the home of an elderly LeFlore County couple Sunday.

KFSM TV, the CBS affiliate in Fort Smith says firefighters from Poteau, Hartford, Heavner and Monroe fought the blaze on Poteau Mountain Road which was called in at about 11 a.m.

A family member told KFSM, the couple had lived in the home for more than 70 years and they had built the home themselves.

A neighbor said the couple was at church when the fire happened.

“It breaks my heart. They are good people. It'll break your heart, they lost everything,”Onor Roop said.

No one was injured in the fire.
