Authorities are investigating a fatal accident involving a car and a train early Tuesday morning. It happened in southwest Oklahoma City near Meridian and Newcastle Road.

Emergency crews responded to the collision at about 12:30 a.m., about two miles north of Will Rogers World Airport. We were told that the driver of the car involved in the collision was heading toward the airport.

Police shut down the intersection for about four hours as investigators tried to figure out if the signals were working and if the driver had enough time to stop, or if this was a case of a driver trying to outrun a moving train.

Police and fire crews on the scene told News 9 that two people were inside that car. One person died at the scene. The other was taken to the hospital. At this point, that person's condition is unclear.

Police have not identified the victims at this time.
