RSU Women’s Basketball Special Olympians Partnership

Posted: Updated:

For the last four seasons the Rogers State women's basketball team has hosted basketball clinics for the Catoosa High School Special Olympians. The clinics allow the Special Olympians work on their basketball skills, with the help of the Hillcats basketball team. The clinics focus on running offensive and defensive drills to help the high school students improve their game.

The Hillcats head coach Bobby Cope said the partnership was a great way for his team to use the game of basketball to connect with a group of great students from Catoosa. “Over the past four years we have developed a great relationship with this group, and every year we look forward to working with them and [having] the unbelievable support we get from them when they come to a game. They are part of the Hillcat family, and we always look forward to our clinics with them,” Cope stated.

The team hosted two mini camps for the students this season. They also attended one of their events, in which they competed against other Special Olympians from Tulsa and surrounding areas. Following the event, the Hillcats invited them to one of its home games. The Olympians attended the Rogers State-Southern Nazarene game, in which they cheered the Hillcats on to a 77-64 win.

The team has continued its successful partnership with the Catoosa High School Special Olympians.
