Heartbreak for a Blanchard family Sunday night after a woman was killed in a house fire. Firefighters say two people were able to escape but Bonnie Hurdelbrink could not.

"In the confusion, as they were able to come through the house, they believed that she was behind them coming out the house," said McClain County Sheriff's Deputy Clark Tucker.

Behind them every step of the way, a husband and grandson thought their loved one Bonnie was with them when fire broke out at their longtime Blanchard home around 1 a.m. on Sunday. Heavy Flames and huge plumes of smoke shot up from the roof just a few days after Christmas. A string of lights and shattered remains of decorations lie like rubble in the yard.

Keith Hurdelbrink and his son walked through the debris Sunday when just hours before, he and his grandson Loren Beasley were barely able walk out of the house. Keith says Loren collapsed, and he had to drag him to safety. But the family was missing Bonnie, who was overcome by the smoke.

"However, she was trapped in the bedroom, once they got out the house, they realized, she was still there, they attempted to re-enter the house, however because of the intense smoke and flames, they were not able to get back in to get her," Tucker said.

The family's worst fear became a reality.

"Once the fire was put out, we did locate a body towards the back of the residence."

Bonnie, a beloved grandmother and Girl Scout troop leader, had died at 59 years old. Her grandson Loren ran next door to have the neighbors call 911. Both he and Keith were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Keith says Loren was flown to a Tulsa hospital for more treatment due to the smoke inhalation.

Investigators say the cause of the fire is under investigation, but an electric heater may be to blame.
