Second Round Of Winter Weather Heads To Northeast Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

After a cold and wet start to 2015, the winter weather is expected to continue into the weekend.

The National Weather Service advises drivers to remain cautious overnight and into Friday morning as light freezing drizzle is possible in some areas across northeast Oklahoma.

Precipitation is expected to move in Friday morning with a mix of rain and freezing rain possible for Northeast Oklahoma, according to the NWS. It says the best chances freezing rain will be northwest of I-44.

Temperatures should climb above freezing Friday afternoon with rain continuing. The NWS said some areas northwest of Tulsa my transition back to freezing rain later in the day.

ODOT said crews will closely monitor the incoming system and will respond if necessary. It said drivers would be urged to use caution even as temperatures warm up.

News On 6 Meteorologist Dick Faurot said, “Surface temperatures are expected to be above freezing for Friday afternoon, that night, and through Saturday. However, the back side of the system still has the potential to produce some snow late in the day Saturday or that night.”

Most of the rain should move eastward early Saturday, but the backside of the system could see several counties along the Oklahoma/Kansas border accumulate some snow.

Once that moves out, Faurot says gusty north winds will keep us in the 20s Sunday, but we might get our first glimpse of sunshine in a while as well.
