Monday Morning Weather Update

Cold Air This Week

Posted: Updated:
The cold air will remain in place for the entire week and possibly into the approaching weekend.   We'll be tracking several cold fronts with another surge of arctic air arriving Tuesday into Wednesday.   A southern stream wave will move near the area Friday into Saturday while the northern stream will drop a disturbance near the state by Sunday.  Both of these waves may be close enough to produce some light precipitation this weekend but the overall chance will be relatively low at this point in the forecast cycle.

Temperatures this morning may start in the lower teens near the Tulsa metro along single digits across northern OK.   The cold air will persist this morning with dry air and mostly clear sky across the entire region.   Afternoon highs today will move into the mid or upper 30s with sunshine and south winds.   Temperatures Tuesday should also remain with morning lows in the lower to mid-20s and highs in the mid or upper 30s before the next arctic air mass surges southward across the state Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning.   This should bring our daytime highs back down into the lower or mid-20s Wednesday afternoon with a few clouds and north winds at 10 to 20 mph.  Wind chill values Wednesday morning could be near zero or even lower across part of northern OK.

The first small wave will approach the southern portion of the state Friday afternoon into Saturday morning with rain developing across Texas.   The majority of this system will remain south and southeast of the state with a few snow showers could move into eastern OK.

Saturday evening into Sunday the northern stream disturbance will approach from the northwest.   This will also bring some lift to the region but moisture will be limited.   This system may also bring a few snow showers or a mix into the eastern third of the state, but higher chances will remain to our east.   The temperature profile for both of these waves would support a mix of rain and sleet, but amounts would be very light, if any at all.   The trend in the data continues to be drier and not wetter.

We'll continue to update as the time period draws near but the main impact for our weather will be the cold air for the remainder of the week.

Thanks for reading the Monday Morning weather discussion and blog.
