Authorities are investigating a shooting in downtown Guthrie involving an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper.

It happened Sunday night on Harrison Avenue near Wentz Street, just a couple blocks away from the Logan County Sheriff's Office. That's apparently where the trooper was going when he made a traffic stop.

It was during that traffic stop just before 9:30 p.m. that some kind of altercation took place between the trooper and the driver of the stopped car. We were told on scene that the driver did have some kind of weapon, but investigators wouldn't say much more than that.

We do know that after the suspect was shot, he was rushed to a hospital in Logan County, and later transferred by a helicopter to the OU Medical Center. At last check, his condition was stable.

A spokesman for OHP said he didn't know the reason for the traffic stop and they're not ready at this point to release the name of the driver who was shot or the trooper involved.
