Deputies: Missing Ottawa County Millionaire Spotted In Southwest Missouri

MIAMI, Oklahoma -

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office says a 48-year-old man reported missing last week was last seen walking from Tiff City, Missouri to Anderson, Missouri on Sunday.

Deputies say a person who gave Michael Arne a ride from the Council Hill area in Ottawa County to Tiff City called law enforcement after seeing the missing person report. Deputies said Arne told several people he was trying to go to Asbury, Missouri.

KOAM, the CBS affiliate in Joplin, Missouri reports Michael Arne disappeared from a shed behind his niece's home sometime late Thursday or early Friday.

"I came out first thing in the morning to give him his hot chocolate and he wasn't there," Arne's nephew-in-law Randall Tate told KOAM. "It was like somebody came in the middle of the night and just snatched him away."

KOAM reports Arne inherited nearly $2 million from his father, but since being diagnosed with mild schizophrenia last year there has been a family fight over his money and power of attorney. Some in the family believe he's being hidden by family members who want to get access to his money.

"When the sheriff showed up the other day and said he was missing, I didn't know what was going on," Michael's half-sister Diana Watkins said. "But they thought I was hiding him and he wasn't here."

The sheriff's office asks anyone who has information concerning the whereabouts of Michael Arne to contact the sheriff's office at 918-542-2806.
