Martin Luther King Jr. Parade Set For Monday In Tulsa

Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Society honors King in the Tulsa MLK Parade starting Monday at 11 a.m. "Celebrate Change" is the theme of this year's event.

TULSA, Oklahoma - Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Society honors the civil rights leader in the Tulsa MLK Parade starting Monday at 11 a.m. The parade named "Celebrate Change" features organizations, schools and churches from across the state.

The parade starts on East John Hope Franklin Boulevard and North Detroit Avenue. Spectators can watch the parade going eastbound on John Hope Franklin Boulevard, turn south on North Greenwood Avenue through Greenwood Business District, then westbound on East Archer Street where it ends on North Elgin Avenue.

The parade streets will close at 10:30 a.m. and reopen at 1:30 p.m. The parade staging area on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, North Boston Avenue between East Jasper Street and West Fairview Street, and East Haskell Place, East Independence Street and East Jasper Street between North Main Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard will be closed between 7 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

North Elgin Avenue between East Brady Street and E 1st Street will be closed from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Parking for participants and spectators is open at OSU-Tulsa, Mount Zion Baptist Church, Greenwood Cultural Center, Vernon AME Church, southeast corner of South Greenwood Avenue and East Archer Street and at the parade's end.
