Tulsa men's basketball will attempt an 8-game winning streak in its 6:00 p.m. tip off Wednesday night at home vs. Memphis. The Golden Hurricane is currently 12-5 overall and undefeated in conference (5-0).

TU won its seventh straight game Saturday, January 17, against USF 75-58. In that game, James Woodard Scored 21 points to lead the Golden Hurricane past USF. Due to his recent performances, Woodard was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday. Woodard has received this award twice now, making it his second consecutive weekly award.

The Golden Hurricane will have home court advantage in Wednesday's contest against the Tigers. Overall, TU is 5-10 against Memphis at home.

Memphis is currently 11-6 overall and 4-2 in the American Athletic. The team is currently on a three-game winning streak, in hopes of improving to four come Wednesday night. Austin Nichols leads Memphis, averaging 12.7 points per game, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks.

“Frank Haith has done a really good job. They're the only undefeated team in the league. They're really good. From the little that I know of them, they have a lot of good guards, and they can shoot,” said Memphis head Coach Josh Pastner (about TU). “Anybody can beat anybody on any given day. There are no gimmies. If you don't bring it, doesn't matter who you're playing, you got an opportunity to lose the game, and if we want an opportunity to beat Tulsa were going to have to play really, really well.”

The game will be the 37th meeting between the two teams, with Memphis leading the overall series 23-13. The last time the teams faced each other was in 2013, ending with an 85-74 Tulsa loss. The last time the Golden Hurricane defeated Memphis was in 2011, in which the team won 68-65.

Game Notes:

-During the game's halftime, Tulsa will honor its former head coach Nolan Richardson. Richardson is already an NCAA basketball Hall of Famer (2008), but was also inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame this past August. He coached Tulsa from 1980-1985, winning the 1981 NIT Championship. Richardson ended his Tulsa career with a 119-37 record.

-Golden Hurricane fans are encouraged to wear blue to the game as part of the Blue Out.

-Tulsa's coaches are participating in Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers, in which they will wear sneakers with their game apparel. The purpose of this is to raise awareness about Cancer and to promote the American Cancer Society as a place for people to receive free 24-hour help and information.
