TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tulsa has once again demonstrated its ability to attract the biggest names in entertainment with the announcement that Rush will open its 40th anniversary tour at the BOK Center on May 8, 2015.

Rush and Live Nation say the R40 LIVE Tour will visit 34 cities throughout North America this summer, with the BOK Center getting the first show.

Rush's 40th anniversary was actually in 2014, but the band took a year off after its last tour to rest.

According to a release on the band's web site, after 40 years together and 20 gold and platinum studio albums, Rush is ready to celebrate by embarking on its 21st tour.

Tickets for the Tulsa show go on sale on January 30, 2015, at 10am.

Rush, originally formed in Toronto, consists of guitar player Alex Lifeson, bass/keyboard player/vocalist Geddy Lee and drummer and lyricist Neil Peart.

After toiling in relative obscurity for a good portion of its career, Rush suddenly finds itself with some clout in pop culture. It appeared on the The Colbert Report in 2008 and in the movie "I Love You, Man" in 2009.

Vocalist Geddy Lee used to call the group the world's most popular cult band.

The last time Rush performed in Tulsa was on September 21, 2010 at the BOK Center on the band's Time Machine Tour. Before that, the band hadn't appeared in Tulsa since 1984 when it performed at the Assembly Center, now known as the Cox Business Center.
