OKLAHOMA CITY -

Ten Oklahoma high schools have been named Oklahoma's Promise 2014 State Champions by the State Regents for Higher Education.

The recognition means the schools lead the state in the number of graduates who met the requirements to receive a scholarship through Oklahoma's Promise. The program allows students from families whose annual income is $50,000 or less to earn a scholarship for college tuition.

Chancellor Glen D. Johnson says Oklahoma's Promise has helped more than 50,000 students achieve the dream of a college education.

Four of the ten schools are located in eastern Oklahoma.

  • Copan High Schools in Washington County
  • Kansas High School in Delaware County
  • Westville High School in Adair County
  • Tulsa Union High School in Tulsa County

He says the program encourages more students to aspire to attend college, prepares them for academic success and provides financial assistance.
