Witness Helps Police Track Down Alleged DUI Hit-And-Run Driver

Investigators were at the scene on Friday reconstructing what happened in an alleged DUI wreck.

After the crash, a witness followed the driver to a parking lot. Once officers arrived, they realized that not only was the driver possibly driving under the influence, but also he had an 8-year-old boy in the car with him.

Kayleigh Kirtley's sport utility vehicle is in bad shape. It's hard to believe she survived, especially after a witness said her vehicle flipped at least five times.

"It was like on a movie but there were no props, none of that stuff,” witness Jason High said. “It was pretty crazy."

Jason said Kayleigh did not cause the crash. He said she was driving in the left lane and the driver of a Chevrolet Cruze was following closely, sped around her on the right, then swerved left in front of her and slammed on his brakes.

He said it caused Kayleigh to hit him, swerve, overcorrect, then flip.

Jason immediately jumped out to check on her and that's when he heard the other driver take off so Jason followed and called 911.

Even though he didn't know either driver, he knew he had to act.

"After seeing her and hearing him take off, I didn't know if she was going to make it and I didn't want something bad to happen and no one ever find him,” Jason said. “It was just instinct to go after him."

Owasso Police Lt. Nick Boatman added, "It says a lot about a person to stay in there and get us the information we need to do our jobs."

Police arrested Brittian Harrison for driving under the influence, leaving the scene, resisting arrest, reckless driving and endangering the child in his car, who was taken into protective custody.

Records say he told police he'd drank three or four beers while at a bowling alley in Tulsa and left because he realized he was probably impaired.

The report says blew below the legal limit on the breathalyzer, which leads police to believe there was another substance involved, so blood was drawn.

Previous records show Harrison has four previous convictions for speeding, one for driving with a suspended license and two for not wearing a seatbelt.

Police say if something happens in traffic, don't handle it yourself, call 911 because it's not worth getting killed.
