Oklahoma junior forward Ryan Spangler has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week for the first time in his career following his performances in wins vs. Texas Tech and Oklahoma State.

The 6-8, 235-pounder from Bridge Creek, Okla., averaged 16.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 blocked shots as OU beat Texas Tech 81-36 in Norman on Wednesday and rallied for a 64-56 win at Oklahoma State on Saturday. Spangler shot 78.6 percent from the field (11 for 14) and 76.9 percent from the free throw line (10 for 13) in the two games, and made his only 3-point attempt (at OSU). He entered the week averaging 9.7 points and 1.3 assists per game on the season.

Spangler scored a season-high 20 points in only 25 minutes vs. Texas Tech on 8-for-9 shooting while adding four rebounds, one assist and three blocks as OU set a Big 12 record for fewest points allowed in a conference game. He followed with 13 points, a game-high nine rebounds and a career-high six assists at Oklahoma State as the Sooners claimed their second straight regular season sweep of the Cowboys. Spangler's six assists were one more than the entire OSU team registered.

Spangler has scored in double figures in each of the last six games (averaging 12.8 during the stretch) to up his season average to 10.3 an outing. He ranks second in the Big 12 in field goal percentage (.583) and in rebounds per game (8.0).

Iowa State's Bryce Dejean-Jones was named the league's newcomer of the week.

The 24th-ranked Sooners host No. 17 West Virginia Tuesday at 8 p.m. CT at Lloyd Noble Center.
