Sweet Revenge: Sooners Dismantle No. 15 West Virginia

Last time the Sooners saw West Virginia, the Mountaineers handed them their worst loss in a long, long time. The favor was returned on Tuesday night.

Buddy Hield poured in 21 points and four Sooners finished in double digits as No. 21 Oklahoma past No. 15 West Virginia 71-52 on a big night in Norman.

West Virginia hammered the Sooners from start to finish in an 86-65 beatdown back in mid-January. It was OU's first loss by 20 or more since a 72-47 shellacking by Gonzaga on Nov. 23, 2002. But Tuesday night had a much different feel to it, and OU had a significantly higher energy level.

With the game tied at 7-7, the Sooners took off and never looked back. Ryan Spangler scored 10 as OU exploded on a 27-8 run and essentially put the game to bed.

A late-first-half surge from the Mountaineers closed the gap to 14 at halftime, but they weren't fooling anybody. This was OU's night.

Jordan Woodard scored 12 points to go with five rebounds and three assists. He also turned it over six times. Isaiah Cousins added 10 for the Sooners and Spangler scored all 10 of his during that killer first half run.

Juwan Staten led the Mountaineers with 15 points and nine rebounds. Gary Browne scored 12 and was the only other WVU player in double digits. West Virginia played without Devin Williams, the Big 12's second-leading rebounder and leader in field-goal percentage. Williams has been dealing with an illness.

OU (15-7, 6-4) adds another top-25 win to its already-impressive NCAA Tournament resume. OU now has five wins over top-25 opponents and heads to TCU on Saturday.
