Thursday Morning Update

Cold Today But Much Warmer Soon

Posted: Updated:
Welcome back to Canada!   The cold front rolled over the area yesterday bringing the cold air, strong north winds, and some light precip to part of northern OK and southern Kansas.   The precip left the region overnight and the clouds cleared from the northwest to southeast.  The result is a very cold morning underway with a number of locations in the middle teens with winds around 10 mph and clear sky.   We'll anticipate a cold day with afternoon highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s across the northern third of the region while southeastern OK could move into the lower or mid-40s with northeast winds this morning backing from the southeast this afternoon at 10 mph.   Sunny and cold conditions will be in the forecast today.

Just as quickly as the cold air moved into the area, warmer air rapidly overruns the region Friday into Saturday.   Temps at the 5k ft level indicate some lower or even mid-70s will be possible this weekend with sunshine and south to southwest winds around 10 to 20 mph.   Some of the point soundings indicate the possibility of a few clouds across eastern sections of the state, but odds would support mostly sunny conditions for most of the day.  The fire danger will remain a concern with the dry conditions, gusty winds, and warmer air.

A weak front may clear the state Sunday morning but with only a minor cool down into the upper 60s.  Monday daytime highs should stay in the mid 60s.   Another brief warm-up into the 70s seems possible Tuesday before a slightly stronger front enters the state Wednesday with cooler air and a slight chance of rain.

Thanks for reading the much abbreviated Thursday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
