TU's Win Streak Comes To End After Loss To SMU

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

TU took a rough loss to SMU Saturday night, ending its 12-game win streak and tarnishing its undefeated conference record. Tulsa is now 17-6 overall and 10-1 in the AAC.

TU took an early lead after James Woodard hit a three for the first basket of the game.

SMU's leading scorer Nic Moore didn't allow Tulsa to lead for long, knocking down two back-to-back buckets four minutes after the start to give the Mustangs a 5-4 lead.

By the 12 minute mark, Tulsa cut SMU's lead to three after another three from Woodard.

D'Andre Wright proceeded to help the Golden Hurricane regain the lead with a three from the wing at the 9:56 mark.

TU later struggled to get something to fall as time ran out, until Mr. Hot Hand a.k.a. Woodard hit another Tulsa three with five minutes before the half. At this point, Tulsa only trailed by one possession.

Woodard didn't stop there. In the next minute, he hit his fourth three of the game, keeping Tulsa afloat.

Two made free throws from Rashad Smith made it a one-point game (with two minutes on the clock). SMU then answered that with a two-pointer, before Marquel Curtis put the game back at one possession for TU with a baseline dunk.

Going into halftime, SMU led 34-28. Woodard led all-scorers with 12 points, while Nic Moore led SMU with nine.

TU didn't look so hot the second half, remaining scoreless for the majority of it. With just under five minutes before the buzzer, SMU held a 15-0 run. Tulsa hadn't scored in a full seven minutes, which soon turned into nine. Moore was uncontainable for Tulsa, hitting back-to-back uncontested points for the Mustangs.

In the final minute, Shaquille Harrison and Woodard teamed up for a couple of threes, as TU fell 68-57 to SMU.

Woodard led Tulsa with 15 points, and Moore led all-scorers with 23.

Tulsa returns to action Thursday, Feb. 12, to take on UConn in Connecticut. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
