TULSA, Oklahoma -

A number of businesses in Brookside are getting ready to move out. The shops have until the end of the month to pack up and make way for new development.

The rumor for months has been that a Trader Joe's will be built at 38th and Peoria. The city of Tulsa can't confirm that, but either way, the businesses are being told to move along.

"February 28th is D-Day. We're just moving to 38th and Peoria, just next to Bahama Sun,” said Must Stash owner, Ashely Ryan.

Ryan said having to leave her current location bitter sweet.

"It's sad. I'm not gonna sit here and not be sad, but all good things must come to an end, and I'm sure whatever is coming will be bigger and better," she said.

So, what is coming to the strip of shops now almost empty?

The rumor mill answer would be Trader Joe's. However, Trader Joe's and the property owner aren't confirming that.

What we do know, is that last fall, the city of Tulsa received a proposal from an architecture firm showing space for a grocery store on one end, loading dock and all.

“If it is a Trader Joe's, its different than the others, different than the Neighborhood Market Walmart,” Ryan said.

Brandi Bell, owner of Patricia Sparks, is leaving her store of ten years and moving across the street. She also said she doesn't know what will take the place of her clothing shop.

“They came around and talked to everyone and let us know this would be happening,” Bell said.

Reasor's grocery said it plans to open its new concept store at 41st and Peoria by late spring whether Trader Joe's goes in or not.

The store said it's all about staying in line with competition in the area with its new location focusing on fresh, prepared foods, which Trader Joe's is known for.

Either way, the shop owners are just ready to move on and reopen.

"The glass is half full. Change is hard for anyone, but it's also good to turn the page,” Bell said.

We called the Boise-based architecture firm, but never heard back.

Demolition will likely start soon after the businesses have left.
