The Los Angeles Athletic Club announced its John R. Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 on Wednesday and Oklahoma junior guard Buddy Hield is one of three Big 12 players on the list.

The 6-4, 212-pound Hield, who is joined on the list by fellow Big 12 players Georges Niang (Iowa State) and Juwan Staten (West Virginia), leads the Big 12 in conference play by averaging 19.5 points (next highest average is 16.9) and 2.8 3-pointers per game. He also ranks fourth in league play in field goal percentage (.488), sixth in steals (1.7 spg), ninth in rebounding (5.9 rpg; first among guards), ninth in 3-point field goal percentage (.402) and 10th in free throw percentage (.780). He has scored in double figures in each of OU's 12 Big 12 contests.

On the season, the Freeport, Bahamas, native is averaging a Big 12-high 17.6 points on .390 3-point shooting (ranks seventh) and .788 free throw shooting (seventh), and adds 5.5 boards an outing. Hield, who has led OU in scoring in seven of the last 11 games, is shooting .532 from 3-point range at home this season.

Fifteen top players who have proven to their universities that they are also making progress toward graduation and maintaining at least a cumulative 2.0 GPA will be submitted on the Wooden Award ballot to voters prior to the NCAA Tournament. Voting will take into consideration the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament. The Wooden Award All American Team will be announced the week of the "Elite Eight" round of the NCAA Tournament.
