Police arrested a man and a woman they say crashed a stolen car into a brick wall in Tulsa during a short chase early Thursday.

Officers said the chase started at about 2:15 a.m. when police attempted to stop a speeding car headed south on Harvard at 71st Street. It ended minutes later near 96th and Harvard when the car crashed into a wall surrounding the Crown Pointe gated community.

The driver, Tony Downing, 46, and a passenger, Lisa Helo, 45, got out and ran away, according to police.

Police said their helicopter led officers on the ground to Downing who was hiding in a shed in a back yard. EMSA took Downing to the hospital for injuries he suffered in the crash.

A K-9 officer bit Helo during her arrest. Paramedics treated her for bites before police took her to the Tulsa County jail.

Police say they searched the car and found a substance believed to be methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

They booked Helo into jail on complaints of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and joyriding. When Downing was released from the hospital, he was booked into jail on complaints of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding, reckless driving and having no drivers license.

Jail records show Downing and Helo are also being held on an arrest warrants out of Osage County for second-degree burglary and possession of stolen property.
