TULSA, Oklahoma - The family of a man killed at the bottom of a staircase at a Tulsa apartment complex is coming to grips with his murder.

Robert Singleton Jr. was shot and killed Tuesday morning; the mother of his child was standing just a few feet away when it happened.

Singleton had four children of his own, three step-children and one on the way when he was shot and killed.

His friends said his murder was pointless.

Brilinn is the 8-year-old son of Brittish and Singleton or Booshae as his friends called him.

The two didn't marry, but Brittish said they remained close friends. She said she's also friends with Singleton's wife and other children.

"We were best friends," she said. “Best friends, me and Booshae are best friends.”

Brittish said Singleton spent the night in her living room Sunday night to visit Brilinn.

She said she had just broken up with Cameron Hendrick a few days earlier and when he found out Singleton had stayed at her place, he got angry and came over.

Brittish said she and Hendrick were arguing outside her apartment when Singleton stepped in to help.

"Booshae heard us talking and came outside to make sure I was okay because he was my protector," Brittish said.

She said Hendrick got to mad, went to his car, came back with a gun and shot Singleton in the chest while she was standing just fee away.

"Cameron shot the gun five times," Brittish said.

Brilinn called 911, and thanks to Brittish's description, police found and arrested Hendrick a short time later.

Brittish, Brilinn and the rest of Singleton's family miss the man they said always made them laugh.

"He's the one who made everybody happy. He's the one who made sure he put a smile on your face," Brittish said.

Singleton's funeral is at Calvary Baptist Church in Sapulpa at 2:00 Monday, February 23.

His family is having a hard time raising enough money for the funeral and set up a fund at Bank of Oklahoma in Robert Singleton Jr.'s name.
