Several cases of a rare disease turned up in Oklahoma. We now know The Department of Health is monitoring at least a dozen cases of typhoid fever in the Enid area.

The Centers for Disease Control is now aware of these typhoid fever cases in Garfield County. The Enid News and Eagle reports the CDC is now consulting with the State Department of Health.

Our state's Health Department said the 12 cases of typhoid fever have been confirmed, but the source has not been identified yet.

They said the cases are isolated to a single family group and there is not any indication that it has spread or a threat to the community for now.

Right now, the Garfield County Health Department is treating patients with antibiotics.

The illness is uncommon in Oklahoma. Each year about 400 cases were reported in the entire country and only one to two a year in Oklahoma alone.
