TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tulsa Zoo took a snowy Monday to release a rehabilitated tundra swan into the wild.

Dr. Jen Kilburn said the swan was shot in December and brought to the zoo after being rescued. Both of its wings had been broken, so it needed medical care to survive.

The fractures didn't impact the bird's joints, so it was able to completely recover with care and banding, according to the Zoo Facebook page.

Zoo officials say it's unusual for a tundra swan to migrate through the Tulsa area as they are known to breed in the Arctic Tundra and migrate to the Atlantic and Pacific coastlines.

The swan was released to a pond on the zoo grounds and flew away just 15 minutes, the post states.

"We wish it a safe migration to the north this spring," Kilburn said.
