After a stellar week in Arizona for the Big 12/Pac-12 Challenge, Oklahoma junior Kolbey Carpenter (Waco, Texas) has been recognized as the Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball News as well as the Big 12 Player of the Week.

Carpenter provided the power for an OU offense that rallied to win three straight games on the weekend as he hit .471 (8-for-17), slugged 1.176 and blasted three home runs in five games. Earning starts at first, second and left field, he drove in nine runs and scores seven on the week to go with a double and a triple.

In a win over Washington on Friday, he hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning. Carpenter drove in two more with a triple against Oregon State on Saturday. In the finale, he went yard with a game-tying solo shot in the second and gave OU the lead in the seventh with a two-run homer.

This is the first time Carpenter has been selected for a weekly award at the conference and national level. On the season, he leads the Sooners with a .400 batting average, .829 slugging percentage and four home runs. He has driven in 11 runs and scored nine.

Carpenter's recognition from the Big 12 marks the second award for Oklahoma in as many weeks. Sophomore right-hander Jake Elliott was named the Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week following opening weekend. He is also the first National Player of the Week since Mac James earned the honor on March 10, 2014.
