Drivers are wrestling with the winter weather as they head home from work and school.

Crews have been out since 4:00 Monday morning and will be working through the night to treat Tulsa's busiest streets.

Heavy snow east of Tulsa has administrators in Wagoner, Tahlequah and Coweta calling off class for Sunday.

West of Tulsa the snow is causing problems for Bristow which also canceled class Tuesday, and south of Tulsa, Eufaula, Henryetta, and McAlester have all canceled classes as well.

Driving conditions got rough off Highway 75 in Okmulgee and further south on I-40 as roads went from dry to slipper and wet with snow and ice in just hours; one driver actually ended up in a ditch.

“I slowed down to turn, there was cars behind me so I didn't want to be in their way, so I tried to get off to the side to make the turn like I usually do but I think I misjudged it,” Lauren Porter said.

She said she wasn't hurt and when it comes to winter weather she said she makes sure she is prepared.

"I have a sleeping bag, snacks bottled water," Porter said.

Fortunately she wasn't far from home, and, instead of calling 911, she called her uncle, Sandy Porter, for help.

"Come straight here on my tractor and came and helped her out," he said.

He hooked up ropes and pulled her car out of the ditch.

”That's my duty in life, to help the ones who need to be helped," he said.

Further south off of 1-40, in Weleetka, school was closed and that didn't surprise Season Pinkston.

“You don't know really what to expect in Oklahoma," she said.

As snow continues to fall, drivers are being careful after seeing some bad road conditions.

Snow plows are out treating the roads right now and will continue to do so throughout the night.
