BNSF Railroad said Wednesday it plans to spend a $118 million for rail maintenance and capacity improvement projects in Oklahoma this year.
“This year's substantial investments in Oklahoma are a clear reflection of how important our operations in the state are to our overall network and our unwavering commitment to always operating safely – for our people and the communities in which we operate,” said Leif Smith, BNSF general manager operations Springfield Division.
BNSF says maintenance of its infrastructure ensures an optimized, safe and reliable network. The railroad said its maintenance program in Oklahoma will include 1,118 miles of track surfacing and undercutting work, the replacement of 38 miles of rail and about 40,000 ties.
Earlier this year, BNSF announced it would be making improvements to its Cherokee Yard in west Tulsa.
