New Tulsa Roughnecks Catch Up On Team History

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

There's only one month left before the Tulsa Roughnecks soccer team makes its return. As of now, the team is still putting together its roster, while the new players are trying to live up to an old legacy.

The old NASL Roughnecks featured the likes of Charlie Mitchell, Victor Moreland and Steve Earle. Each of them honed their craft in the top English leagues before coming to Tulsa.

As the new Roughneck players are getting caught up, there are people in Tulsa who look at the old team and feel very proud of the history it has created in the area.

The first two signees for the Roughnecks don't have top tier English experience, but they're up and coming talent. Oscar Jimenez was a standout college player on the DII level, and was on various MLS and Mexican League youth squads. Defender Ben Brewster is moving up from lower levels to the USL. "They're going to be a big part of this, you know, we're a team. That was a good start. They're good people, they're good citizens, and they're good players. I think it's a good unit to compete at this level, and it's just a process. I'll tell you when it gets a little quieter, when my phone stops ringing," said Roughnecks head coach David Irving.

So, to Jimenez and Brewster, welcome to Oklahoma.
