TULSA, Oklahoma -

EMSA responded to 40 crashes between the hours of midnight and 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Spokesperson Kelli Bruer said most of the wrecks on Saturday evening have been on highways.

They've also responded to three incidents involving cold exposure. Four people in a house were taken to the hospital after the heat in their home went out. Another person was also transported for cold exposure in a second incident. EMSA also treated a person at a homeless shelter for cold exposure.

None of the injuries were life-threatening, Bruer said.

"We have heard reports that the poor road conditions have also made it difficult for motorists to yield to emergency vehicles," Bruer said.

"Any unnecessary travel puts all motorists at risk, including emergency responders."

"Also, if you do not have reliable heating in your home, please make alternate arrangements now, if possible, as temperatures will continue to drop overnight."

The emergency service also recommends that Green Country residents check on elderly friends and neighbors to ensure they have adequate heat.
