Folks in Muskogee will soon have new places to shop.

The city and Vector Companies broke ground Thursday on a 115,000 square-foot Three Rivers Plaza Shopping Center.

It's going to be at 6th Street and Shawnee.

Dick's Sporting Goods will anchor the new development. There will also be a T-J Maxx and an Ulta Beauty store.

Muskogee's mayor, Bob Coburn, said the goal is to create new jobs and sales tax revenue for the city.

"We want retail in Muskogee. We want retail in Muskogee that we can shop first in Muskogee before we shop other places. And this is delivery of that and we are excited to see this happen," Coburn said.

Three Rivers Plaza is scheduled to open by this Christmas season.
