TULSA, Oklahoma -

A Tulsa man is in jail Monday, accused of stealing someone's van and running from police. When he ran into a midtown neighborhood, police say people living there helped them track the driver down.

The victim says he knew Glenn Clayton, who's been booked into the Tulsa County Jail on complaints of possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding, obstruction a police officers and driving without insurance.

The victim called police from Harbor Freight Tools, 2160 South Sheridan Road, to report a stolen van. He said Clayton was out back - sleeping in it.

Police say when they got there, Clayton took off in the van, and police chased him for about five miles, from 21st and Sheridan to 51st and Harvard.

Along the way, officers say Clayton ran several red lights, and nearly crashed into two cars.

"The driver of the listed vehicle took extremely dangerous risks with no regard for the safety of others in attempt to elude officers," an arrest report states.

Citizens helped police find the van after Clayton ditched it around 51st and Lewis, records show.  He ran through several yards and even jumped a fence, police say.

Police set up a perimeter and tracked down Glenn Clayton. After tackling him, officers found the keys to the van on him and arrested him.

Clayton claimed he had bought the vehicle from a friend and wasn't trying to get anyone hurt, but the vehicle's owner said he'd never given Clayton permission to drive the van.
