Severe Storms Possible In Oklahoma This Week

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Clouds and rain were the story for Easter Morning. Showers ending in the afternoon might leave enough time for a wet Easter egg hunt for some.

Moisture will be increasing from the Gulf of Mexico behind a warm front on Monday with dew points climbing into the 60s. On-and-off showers will be possible again Monday and Tuesday afternoon as we wait for a large upper level system to begin pushing energy our direction.

We need this upper level support to have a decent shot at strong to severe storms. The warm and moist lower levels of the atmosphere will become increasingly unstable starting Tuesday. Combining an unstable atmosphere with the upper level system will make for a good environment for thunderstorm activity, especially Wednesday and Thursday.

News On 6 WARN Team Weather

Right now, the main focal point of storm develop looks to be on the dry line for Tuesday and Wednesday which will be set up in western Oklahoma. The dry line could cut through OKC on Tuesday but position itself farther west for Wednesday.

Thursday's scenario is a little different as a cool front moves in from the northwest. Thursday, the cool front will be the hot zone for storm development and timing of cool front will become very important, especially when deciding on timing and location of storms as well as strength and intensity.

The atmosphere will be conducive for all modes of severe weather (it is spring after all), so stay alert for more updates and changes to the forecast.
