Oklahoma junior Anthony Hermelyn has been named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week for the week ending April 5. An infielder and catcher, he has predominantly played at first base this season and becomes the second Sooner to earn the weekly Big 12 honor.

Hermelyn hit a team-high .529 (9-for-17) as the Sooners went 4-0 on the week, including a three-game sweep over Kansas at home. He notched a multi-hit game in each contest to lift his team-leading total to 16 on the season. Hermelyn opened the week with a 2-for-5 effort with a RBI-double in non-conference action against Central Arkansas.

On the weekend, Hermelyn posted back-to-back two-hit days against the Jayhawks with a run scored and driven in in each game. In the series finale, he finished the day 3-for-5 with a run scored. For the week, Hermelyn scored three runs, drove in three and owned a .526 on-base percentage and .588 slugging percentage for a 1.114 OPS.

Hermelyn is a career .457 (16-for-35) hitter in nine games against Kansas. The award marks the first of his career and the fourth for Oklahoma this season. Junior Kolbey Carpenter has twice been named the Big 12 Player of the Week and sophomore shortstop Sheldon Neuse claimed it once; marking the first time the Sooners have garnered that award four times in a season.

Oklahoma is on the road for a non-conference tilt in Stillwater against Oklahoma State Tuesday night at 6:00 pm.
