CREEK COUNTY, Oklahoma -

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation released the identity of a man who died after being shot by Creek County deputies and a Bristow police officer Wednesday night.

In a news release, the OSBI said deputies got a 911 call about a domestic violence incident in the 14400 block of South 257th West Avenue just after 8 p.m.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says when deputies arrived they saw a man, identified as Mark Smith, enter a shop building.

The OSBI says deputies learned Smith had assaulted his estranged wife and her child at a home.

According to the OSBI, deputies spent the next hour and a half talking on the phone with Smith. They said Smith ended the call by telling them he was not going to jail then got into a pickup and drove out of the building.

The OSBI said Smith then showed deputies what appeared to be a rifle in the pickup. They said after a deputy used his taser, Smith attempted to drive away, hitting a Bristow police officer.

That is when three deputies and the Bristow officer opened fire, according to the OSBI.

A medical helicopter took Smith to a Tulsa hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2 a.m. Thursday.

The OSBI says the police officer who was struck by the pickup was not seriously injured.
