Soccer Tourney Bringing Young Athletes To Tulsa Area

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

A youth soccer tournament will bring an estimated $5.5 million economic impact to the Tulsa area this weekend, according to the Tulsa Sports Commission. The Lexus Cup Tulsa Soccer tourney will bring close to 1,000 matches to 50 fields spread throughout the area.

It's the fifth year for the largest soccer tournament in Oklahoma, organizers say. Around 400 teams from eight different states are participating.

"This is a huge weekend for soccer in Tulsa – from the footprint to the economic impact," said Vince Trinidad, executive director of the Tulsa Sports Commission. "We love seeing our regional venues this busy and assisting our local partners in making their events successful.

The U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship will take place July 21-25, also in the Tulsa area. It is expected to have an even greater economic impact.

Games will take place this weekend at the Mohawk Sports Complex, Indian Springs Sports Complex and Metro Tulsa Soccer Complex. Athletes will range from elementary school kids to high school students.
