Derrian James went six-for-six with five RBIs, helping the Golden Eagles to a 19-1 win over Western Illinois.

Scoring Synopsis

In the first inning, Derrian James singled to center field before stealing second. Later in the inning, Anthony Sequeira singled to left field, scoring James with two outs. Noah Cummings struck out looking soon after, making out number three.

Xavier Altamirano sat down the Leatherneck's first two batters in the bottom of the inning, followed by a groundout to end the first.

Nick Roark sent a bunt down third, but was thrown out to start the top of two. Dean Wilson then got hit by a pitch. He soon stole second to put himself in scoring position, but was left stranded.

Western Illinois threatened at the bottom of the inning after Colton Pogue advanced JJ Reimer to third. With two outs, Brent Turner singled to right field, scoring Reimer to make it a 1-1 ball game. The rally ended when Altamirano struck out Roman Visintine on a breaking ball.

James stayed hot, leading off the top of three with a single to right field. Oral Roberts then went on to advance its lead 3-1 off of hits from Audie Afenir and Cummings that scored James and Matt Brandy.

The Leathernecks didn't have much luck at the bottom of the inning as they went down without scoring.

The Golden Eagles extended its lead 5-1 after James delivered again to score Wilson, followed by a single from Afenir that scored Brandy.

ORU wrapped the top of four with another run, taking a 6-1 lead before heading out to field.

It was three up three down at the bottom of the inning, quickly sending Oral Roberts back to the plate.

THE BATS DON'T STOP: The top of the fifth proved to be very successful for the Golden Eagles, as the team tallied six more runs to escalate its advantage 12-1.

ORU remained in complete control of the game, finishing with a 19-1 win over the Leathernecks.

ORU's Derrian James went six-for-six with five RBIs, tying Jeff Stallings record for most consecutive hits in a single game at ORU (1999).

Oral Roberts will continue its series against Western Illinois, playing game two on Saturday and game three on Sunday, both at noon.
