Police Identify Suspect, Officer In Fatal Shooting In East OKC

Police have identified the suspect and the officer involved in a fatal shooting on the east side of the metro Sunday night.

Investigators say Officer Tucker Ballinger was called out to the 9200 block of Sleepy Hollow Dr. on reports of an elderly white male, now identified as 83-year-old Richard Weaver, wielding a “very large” machete and making threats toward neighbors.

According to police, when Ballinger arrived on scene he made contact with Weaver and gave several warnings for him to drop his weapon. Weaver did not comply and the officer opened fire. Weaver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ballinger has been placed on routine administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting.
