Opening statements are set to begin after the jury was selected in the murder trial against Chancey Luna, the man accused of shooting and killing an Australian man as he jogged in Duncan in August 2013.

The jury, comprised of seven men and five women, was selected just after 12 p.m.

In day one of jury selection more than 400 Stephens County residents were summoned, 114 were chosen to stay before being whittled down to the final 12.

For the next several days Luna, 17, will sit in the defendant's chair, charged with the murder of Australian baseball player Christopher Lane in Aug. 2013.

Luna was one of three allegedly involved in the alleged “thrill kill” murder.

Michael Jones, 19, has already pleaded guilty to Second Degree Murder and is serving life in prison.

The other teen, 17-year-old James Edwards Jr., is charged with Accessory after the Fact and has testified against Luna and Jones in the preliminary hearing and is still awaiting his sentence.

If convicted, Luna could face life in prison. The death penalty is off the table due to Luna's young age when the murder happened.

News 9 Reporter Justin Dougherty is inside the courtroom and will be live tweeting during the trial.  You can follow along on the main desktop site of News9.com.
