Mid-Del Bus Driver Arrested For DUI After Crash In SE OKC

Emergency crews are on the scene of a crash involving a school bus in southeast Oklahoma City, Monday morning.

Police have arrested the driver of a school bus for driving under the influence after crashing into several other vehicles and a railroad bridge in southeast Oklahoma City Monday morning.

Emergency crews were called out to the scene near intersection of SE 15th St. and S. Central Ave. around 8 a.m.

According to reports, a bus belonging to the Mid-Del school district lost control and went up and embankment before finally hitting the railroad bridge and coming to rest near SE 15th St. and S. Santa Fe. Ave.

The bus struck at least five other cars during the crash, with several injuries being reported. One of the injuries is said to be serious.

Police now say the driver of the bus, now identified as 57-year-old Odis Pitts, was driving under the influence of some kind of drug. That driver was unconscious at the scene when medical personnel arrived.

Pitts was the only person on board the bus at the time of the crash. He will be held at the hospital for overnight observation before being taken to the Oklahoma County Jail. He is facing one count of Driving Under the Influence, three counts of Leaving the Scene of an Accident and one count of Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident. Investigators have not said what drug Pitts was using.

Eastbound SE 15th St. was blocked off at I-35 while crews work the scene.
