Two days after Tulsa County Sheriff Stanley Glanz announced his second-in-command was resigning, he's appointed a new undersheriff.

Glanz announced Wednesday that Rick Weigel will replace Tim Albin.

Sheriff Glanz announced on Monday that Albin was resigning as undersheriff following the release of a document that showed concerns about the special treatment of a reserve deputy involved in a fatal shooting on April 2, 2015.

A 2009 report says a sergeant tried to suspend Reserve Deputy Bob Bates for failing to meet firearm qualifications, but Major Tom Huckeby and then-Deputy Chief Tim Albin stepped in, saying that was “harassment.”

When asked about how he handled the Bates situation, Albin told News On 6 reporter Lori Fullbright that he always tried to do the right thing.

“Are there decisions I wish I would've made differently? Sure, but not really. I always tried to do things for the greater good, tried to do things to advance this office and help employees.”

Albin's last day with the sheriff's office is May 1, 2015.

Other changes announced on Wednesday include that reserve deputies will no longer be allowed to patrol by themselves. Also, the advanced reserve program is being suspended while a records audit of each reserve deputy's training file is completed. Reserve deputies will still be utilized but they will have to be partnered with a certified deputy.

The sheriff said John Bowman is now acting chief deputy and Rob Lillard is now acting major.
