Twenty-Three Tulsa County Flu-Related Deaths This Season

The Oklahoma Department of Health reports the number of flu-related deaths statewide since September 2014 now stands at 112 with four new deaths in the past week.

OSDH began keeping track of flu-related deaths in 2009 and says this season has been the highest ever. The latest deaths were reported in Creek, Garfield, Oklahoma and Tulsa counties.

The flu-related death in Creek County was the first for that county this season. Tulsa County's flu deaths climbed to 23, the highest number of any county in the state. Oklahoma County, is second with 15 flu-related deaths.

The department says since the current flu season began last fall, there have been 2,285 hospitalizations.

Health officials are expect to current flu season to end in May.
