In an instant, bricks and a cloud of dust flew into a Broken Arrow family's living room.

They thought there was an explosion in their home, but once the dust settled, the family was shocked to learn what actually what happened.

Broken Arrow police said what happened was totally preventable, and, in fact, could have been a lot worse.

"There was no, like, warning. It was very, just like, loud, like an explosion," said homeowner Penelope Hinds.

It wasn't an explosion that shook Hinds' home; it was a Jeep with a teenager and a can of aerosol inside.

"You could see debris and smoke, kind of, and dust, and it was like, 'What happened?' You know? And there's a car in there," Hinds explained.

Police said a 16-year-old boy was huffing a can of aerosol while driving Sunday morning when he blacked out, jumped the curb, threaded the needle between a bush and a tree, and rammed right into Hinds' home, sending debris flying.

Half the car was inside the dining room and office. Hinds was on the other side of the house doing yard work, but her husband had just gotten up from his desk.

"That's when I got really upset because I realize how close it came to really hurting somebody," she said.

Hinds said there was an angel watching over them.

There weren't injuries, but the teen was arrested for DUI and other charges, according to Corporal Leon Calhoun with BAPD.

“This gives him a chance to learn from a very, very poor choice, and without anybody being seriously injured," he said.

Hinds hopes the boy gets the help he needs.

She said stuff can be replaced, but kids can't.

The family said they just remodeled and hired a professional team to clean the whole house.

Now, they get to restart that process.
