Long Time Journeyman Excels For Drillers

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Oklahoma native Brian Burgamy is impressing in his home state for the Drillers. "It's really a treat for my family, but I'm glad to be back myself," said Burgamy.

You would think with his 359 batting average and five home runs so far he'd be looking at a shot to move up the ladder, but Burgamy's case is different. He's a 14-year minor league journeyman, and has played over 1,400 games. "You've got to stay within yourself and definitely give everything you have, because you never know [when] a team may go in another direction or might release you," he explained.

With being released, he learned persistence on the diamond. He started in 2002 in Eugene, OR. Other stops include: Fort Wayne, IN, Lake Elsinore, CA, Mobile, AL, Reading, PA, Clearwater, FL, St. Lucie, FL, Camden, NJ, Campeche, Mexico, York, PA, Binghamton, NY and now Tulsa.

He's also willing to play anywhere on the field. This season he's played left field, third base and first base. He says it's all about giving himself any opportunity to get a chance to get to the Bigs. "Hopefully they give me a shot,” said Burgamy. β€œIt's all up to them and how everything goes. I just have to do my part and control what I can control.”

The useful and talented 33-year-old won't quit. "I'll do it until my body gives out or they take the jersey off of me, so hopefully it will last a few years, maybe more."
