Things are heating up regarding the issue of drilling for oil and gas inside the City of Stillwater. The city continues to look at limiting the practice which has sparked lots of debate.
It's been nearly four decades since Stillwater updated its oil and gas drilling regulations. Getting there's been more than a four month process.
Right now, oil companies are allowed to drill within 300 feet from other people' s property. The city is looking at pushing that back to 660 feet.
The city council is looking at several regulations regarding setbacks as well as restrictions on the noise, light and smell drilling operations bring.
The city council has been working on this ordinance for five months. The council agreed a final vote would take place on June 15.
