Bryce Robinson of the University of Tulsa men's track and field team put himself in elite company this past weekend, after winning the 100-meter dash at the American Athletic Conference Championships in a time of 9.99 seconds, the eighth-fastest time in the world this year according to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) list.

“It's a real eye opener,” said Robinson. “I have always dreamed of being on a list where I am one of the top ten sprinters in the world. It was a pretty surreal thing, it wasn't until the next day that all of this had sunk in, and I am very pleased with how my season is going. However, I am still not done putting in my work, my season is just beginning and I have a long ways to go, but it is great to see that my hard work is already paying off.”

The list includes world-renowned sprinters and Olympic medalists such as American Justin Gatlin (9.74) and Jamaican Asafa Powell (9.84).

The junior from Edmond, Oklahoma has big goals for himself, and sees himself racing against these big names within the next couple of years.

“I set the bar for myself very high. I truly believe that I can do anything I set my mind to and right now my mind is focused on preparing for the World Championships in 2015 and the Summer Olympics in 2016,” Robinson said. “I see myself doing what I love, which is running track professionally with my college degree from the University of Tulsa. I see myself representing my country at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.”

Robinson has his eyes set on the West Regionals next week in Austin, Texas, and the NCAA Outdoor Championships (6/10-6/13) in Eugene, Oregon, before taking part in the 2015 USATF Outdoor Championships in Eugene, beginning June 25. He will be running both the 100 and 200-meter dashes at these events.
