Pop-Culture Comes To Life At Tulsa Comic Expo

For the next two days, the Tulsa Comic Expo is at the Cox Business Center, making Tulsa is the place to be for pop-culture and comic fans.

The comic expo has something for everyone - people into comics, art, anime, and people who appreciate the late 80's early 90's movies.

Nearly 25 years after he and his band of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle brothers first hit the big screen, Michelangelo showed he still has moves.

To see him and other characters from the past, you won't need a flux capacitor or a TARDIS, they're all in person - along with some new characters - at the Tulsa Comic Expo.

While some believe comic expos are a magnet for die-hard fans, that's not always the case according to expo producer Ken Daniels.

"These are your everyday people. This is what they do for fun, they bring their kids and they raise their kids up on this and it's their creative side, everybody has a creative side and this is a way to release it," he said.

This is the second year the event has been in Tulsa and Daniels said the city just has the right feel and people.

The expo isn't just for those who like dressing up, it also gives homegrown comic book writers and artists, like Tulsa natives Eric Lee and Paul Wizikowskia, a platform to get more exposure.

"It's always been a passion to create properties and tell stories, and animation and comics have always been a passion of mine," Lee said.

That passion has come to life in the form of Rexodus.

"We just got picked up by Dark Horse last summer and it's finally set to release July 7," said Wizikowskia.

So, whether you're searching to find your favorite comic book, dressing as your favorite character or watching your favorite character, there may just be something for you.

The expo picks up again at 10:00 Saturday morning.

Kids 10 years old and younger get in free.
