The NASA MODIS satellite has captured an image of flooding occurring along the Arkansas River in Oklahoma and Arkansas as well as the the major tributaries which flow into the river.

NASA Images Show Arkansas River Flooding

The NASA MODIS satellite has captured an image of flooding along the Arkansas River in Oklahoma and Arkansas and the major tributaries which flow into the river.

The two satellite images show the Arkansas River two years apart. One image was taken on May 26, 2015, by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite. It shows high water and flooding along most of the length of the river as it flows from central Oklahoma into central Arkansas.

The second image shows the same area on May 14, 2013 when the drought was in effect.

The Arkansas River is the second-longest tributary of the Mississippi River, flowing from Colorado through Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has closed the Arkansas River to commercial and recreational traffic due to the flooding. It is also trying to manage the outflow from lakes and reservoirs.
