Pooling Flood Water Forces Wagoner Residents Out Of Homes

Rainwater is pooling in a Wagoner neighborhood leaving some homes flooded. Others homeowners know not if, but when we get more rain, their homes will have to be evacuated too.

Homeowners packed their bags as one family evacuated to the Red Cross Shelter in town.

The water is ten feet deep in parts, and could soon be rising.

Charlotte and Tommy Weiss are praying for the rain to stop.

“It's heartbreaking. You see this on the news all the time and you pray for them families, but when you're in the same devastation yourself, it's like, 'thank you for your prayers,'" Charlotte said.

Rainwater is pooling in her Wagoner neighborhood and seeping into her yard, inching toward her home.

"Never in our life have we ever had to go through anything like this," she said.

Firefighters put sandbags around the perimeter, but when Charlotte looks outside she sees no signs of hope as her neighbors' homes are under water.

“Until it gets in the house or gets up to the house, we're not leaving. We're going to protect what we've got," she said.

Glen Schofield and his family bought their home a year ago.

“It's scary. My kids, they just want to go home," he said.

The seller told him the house was prone to flooding, and Wednesday morning his oldest daughter woke him up to show him water on their floors.

"I feel like I let my family down, you know, I mean I don't care about none of the stuff in the house. I just was glad I was able to get them out," Schofield said.

The Army Corps of Engineers said all this water is runoff collecting in a low-lying area, and more rain is coming.

"Yeah, it gets up, then, yeah, we're out of here. I mean, we got to," Charlotte said.

Snakes and mosquitoes have been spotted in the area, just adding to residents' concerns.

The mayor put markers in the ground to monitor water levels while people brace for more rain this weekend.
