A community organizer hopes bringing food trucks and a mobile grocery store to her neighborhood will start a new trend and help bring in permanent business in north Tulsa.

Food Truck Sundays in the Phoenix District are all about filling the food gap.

With a lack of restaurants and grocery stores, the Phoenix Development Council is hoping the event provides some relief. It's a way for the Phoenix District to have access to an assortment of food choices.

"A lot of people are tired of having to drive all the way across town just to get something to eat that other parts of the city have easy access to," said Tracie Chandler of the Phoenix Development Council.

The heart of the district is 36th Street North and Peoria, but there aren't any restaurants or grocery stores.

That's why Tracie Chandler and the Phoenix Development Council are hoping events like Food Truck Sunday pop up more often and encourage businesses to invest in the area.

"We have money, and we want to spend our money over here," Chandler said.

Chandler said as long as people show up, she'll keep bringing in the vendors until someone takes a chance on her neighborhood.

"I would like to be able to walk to the ice cream shop, getting exercise, eating my ice cream and then exercise as I'm going back," said Tracie Chandler of the Phoenix Development Council.
